DP World Australia is the largest container stevedore in Australia. Our customers are global container shipping lines and national exporters and importers.
Our primary goal is to ensure our container terminals operate as efficiently as possible. We will continue to automate and improve our facilities across the country. In 2014 we completed the automation of our Brisbane terminal, which is setting new standards for container handling. This is improving the service to both shipping companies and trucking companies using the terminal.
Recently we acquired 50 percent of AWH, a traditional Australian company that provides exporters and importers with warehousing, marketing, bonded, broking and freight forwarding services. AWH handles 50 percent of the nation's wool clip and 20 percent of the cotton and citrus production. The company also supplies logistics services to many of Australia's largest retailers and importers — the same customers that use our terminals.
Our future plans also include better use of existing rail connections to inland facilities, including the many regional facilities operated by AWH. Our container terminals at Port Botany and Port of Melbourne have direct rail connectivity, and our plan is to extend the use of rail at all four of our Australian terminals to provide a better service to metropolitan, regional and rural Australia.
