Statement 16 December 2019

DP World Australia is aware comments made by the NSW Transport & Roads Minister on Thursday 12 December may have created false expectations amongst NSW road and transport operators. The circumstances requiring DPWA to announce an increase in access charges from 1 January 2020 have not changed, and consequently industry expectations must be moderated.

The decision to increase our terminal access charges was not easy, nor taken lightly. The further rebalancing of revenue for services provided to both waterside and landside customers is necessary to adequately account for landside costs, and fundamental to a sustainable future in this challenging market.

Like the NSW Government, we want a successful and viable port. We are very proud of our role in connecting NSW exporters and importers with the world, handling billions of dollars of goods every year, and enabling the state economy to grow to record levels.

DPWA welcomes the opportunity to engage with the NSW Productivity Commission in the new year.
